Publisher - Creating a Newsletter
Getting Started
1. Click Start, Programs, Teachers, and then Publisher.
2. The Publisher Wizard opens. Double click Newsletter.
3. Select the Jazzy template. Click Next.
4. Select two columns. Click Next.
5. Click yes to placing headline horizontal.
6. Click Next to two stories on the page.
7. Type in your headline title. ( Example: Adkin's Answers) Click Next.
8. For the next set of options, date, issue, etc., click Next.
9. Change the number of pages to two instead of four. Click Next.
10.Click no for the option on mailing address label.
11.Click yes and click Next for two sided printing option.
12.Click Create It! and wait!
13.Click no for step by step instructions.
Viewing the Page

1. Press F9 to zoom in and out look at actual
page size.
2. Click the minus to minimize. Click the + to enlarge.
3. The arrows denote, first page, previous page, next page and then last page.
4. Click the arrow after the number one to view the second page.
5. Click the arrow before the word page to go back to the first page.
6. Click the minus or plus sign to get your newsletter to 50%.
Formatting Headlines
1. Double click on your headline. This is Word Art.
2. Change font style to your style by scrolling and selecting. Stay with Plain
and Best Fit
3. Click the x to close the window. Then click anywhere on your document to
place the headline.
4. Double click the secondary headline and press delete. Now type Tips on
Publishing a Newsletter.
Deleting Nonsense Text:
1. Double click the space below the headline, the body of the article, and
press delete. This deletes the nonsense.
2 Copy the text below. Highlight the text and press ctrl-c.
3. Insert your cursor in the body of the text and press ctrl-v. Click OK to all the
windows that come up. Your text should now be the first article.
More Practice
1. Now double click the other secondary headline and replace with
Ideas for a Classroom Newsletter Using Publisher.
2. Highlight the text frame so that you can see the handlebars.
3. Go to the menu bar and select Format and click border. Select a line style,
preferably solid. Click apply and OK.
4. With the box highlighted. Go back to Format menu and select shadow. This
places a shadow around the text box.
These
three buttons are shortcuts to fill, line size and style and shadow feature to use with
frames and boxes.
Inserting Bulleted Text
1. Double click the text area below the second article and press
delete to clear column.
2. Click the bullet icon on the menu bar and select a bullet.
Type the following in that column:
Classroom Events
Schedule
Birthdays|
Star Kids
Awards
Photos
Scanned Pictures
Book Lists
Changing a Graphic Selection and Editing Graphic
1. Double click the graphic.
2. Select Find to locate a newspaper. Type newspaper and make a selection.
3. Right click on the graphic to get the formatting selections.
4. Select Object Frame Properties toward the bottom.
5. Select the first option, wrap text around Entire Frame.
6. Double click the caption and type new caption: Newspaper Ideas.
Insert a New Graphic
1. Click under the bulleted list in the second column.
2. Press enter and get rid of the bullet by clicking the bullet icon on the toolbar
and selecting none.
3. Select the picture icon from the object toolbar on the left.
4. Insert under the second column and draw a frame.
5. Go to Insert on the menubar. Select Picture File.
6. Find (news.bmp) located in the L: drive the kptemp folder under language arts.
7.. Select the file and say fit frame to picture. Click OK.
Deleting a Frame or Enhancing a Frame
1. Highlight the table of contents frame at the bottom and click the control +
delete key. The frame will clear.
2. To enhance a frame, highlight a frame and select the line border icon on the
toolbar.
3. Select the appropriate width and style and a frame will appear around the text.
4. To add border art, highlight the frame, go to Format.
5. Select border art and make a choice.
Inserting Word Art
1. Select the WordArt icon on the object toolbar.
2. Draw a frame at the bottom of the page below the two columns.
3. When the window pops up Enter Your Text Here, type: Newsletters are Informative.
4. In the font effects field select Wave 1 and select a different font.
5. Select the tool to stretch your text and select a shadow effect by clicking that
tool at the end of the toolbar.
6. Click outside the text window that contains the slogan and it will appear on the
newsletter.
Changing Background
1. Highlight the black sidebar and select Format on the menubar.
2. Select fill color and choose a gray tone or select fill patterns and shading and
then a gray tone.
Adding Vertical Text on the Sidebar
1. Select the Word Art icon on the object toolbar. Draw a long rectangle on
top of the sidebar.
2. Select the arrow that points up for the font effect.
3. Select a font style and type your school name.
4. Stretch the text to fit the frame if it is needed. Click off to close and
text should now be vertical.
More Practice
1. Highlight the text for the memorable quote and replace the text with one of your
sayings.
2. Save your newsletter.
3. Click at the bottom and go to page two. Practice editing, deleting and
formatting the second page using the tools from above.
