Activity One:  Creating a Personal Online Today Page

Capturing Images from the Internet
1.  Open Internet Explorer, go to the
Graphics Library to locate graphics for this activity.
2.  Select the blue dots or primary paper as your background choice.
3.  Right click on top of your choice and click Save Picture As.
4.  Locate your the appropriate folder to save your graphic and Save.
5.  Right click on top of the sun graphic and click Save Picture As.
6.  Locate the apporpriate  folder to save your sun graphic.
7.  Repeat the above steps to capture the calendar and mailbox graphics.

Adding a Background and Page Properties:
1.  Right click on composition area.  Click Page Properties.
2.  At the General Tab, type in the name of your page.  (Ex: Online Today with Mrs. Adkins)
4.  Click the background tab. 
5.  Click Background Image then click the browse button.
6.  Click browse again and in Look In, click and scroll to the folder that contains your graphics.
7.  Select to highlight the blue dots or primary lines graphics.
8.  Change hyperlink colors to compliment your page.
9.  Click OK to close the page properties window.

Inserting Text:
1.  Click the style drop down menu in the formatting toolbar and select Heading One.
2.  Select Arial for the font.
3.  Click the center alignment icon on the toolbar.  Your cursor should be blinking in the center.
4.  Type the title: Online Today with (Your Name)
5.  Highlight your title and change the style to bold by clicking "B" on toolbar.
6.  Click the color palette and select a color that goes well with the background chosen.
7.  Press enter two times.

Inserting Graphics (Graphics Library)
1.  Go to the Insert Image icon on the toolbar.
2.  Click and wait for window to pop up.
3.  Click the browse button at the end of the from file field.
4.  Locate the folder that contains your graphics.
5.  Click open the graphics folder and select sun20.  Click OK.
6.  The sun should appear in the middle under your title.
7.  Press enter one time and type Today's Weather under the sun. Press enter two times.

Resizing Graphics
1. Insert the calendar graphic by repeating steps 1 to 6 above.
2. Drag the handlebars to resize the graphic.  Press enter one time and type Today in History.
3. Insert the mailbox graphic by repeating steps 1 to 6.
4. Press enter one time and type E-mail Your Teacher.

Editing Graphics
1. Right click on one of the graphics and select Image Properties.
2. Click on the Appearance tab at the top.
3. In the border thickness box, select zero(0).  This prevents a box around the image.
4. If you desire the text to appear to the right of the image, select the alignment option.
5. Select middle and click OK.

Creating a Hyperlink
1.  Highlight the text: Today's Weather.
2.  Click the earth icon with the chain link.
3.  In the URL field type:
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/30040. (Or use your zip)
4.  Click OK.

More Practice
1.  Click the calendar graphic so that you see the handlebars.  That means it is selected.
2.  Go to the Internet and locate The History Channel
3.  Highlight the entire URL.  Do a copy. (Ctrl - C)
4.  Go back to FrontPage Express.   The URL should be pasted in the field.
5.  Click OK.

Creating a Link to E-mail
1.  Highlight the mailbox.  It should display the handles.
2.  Click the earthlink icon. 
3.  Click the field, hyperlink type and select mailto:
4.  In the URL type your e-mail address.  (ex:  name@forsyth.k12.ga.us)

Saving Your Page
1.  Type your name at the bottom of the page. Press shift + enter and type the date.
2.  Go to File, Save As.
4.  Click As file, to open to save in the appropriate folder or on a disk.

Viewing Your Page in Internet Explorer
1.  Go to Windows Explorer to launch your page in Internet Explorer.
2.  Double click to select the page.  Test the links.
