Integration News from the Classrooms
Lots of exciting things are happening in classrooms. To share some of the students work, we will be creating student spotlight portfolios during the next teacher web page update on Tuesday, September 28. If you are unable to attend, I will be contacting you to set up a time that we can meet and create a writing portfolio for your students.
Listed below are directions to implement Student Spotlight as well as some examples from other teachers in the district.
As part of the spotlight implementation, a checklist will be provided that contains user accounts and columns to manage the portfolio.

Mrs. Thomas' kindergarten students are working with partners and exploring Kid Pix. They have also been working on the Internet at Learning Planet.
Mrs. Stone's first graders brainstormed facts about corn using Kidspiration. Check out their webbings in the hallway.
Mrs. McPherson's second graders drew plants and labeled the parts in KidPix which are displayed in the hallway.
Mrs. Phillips' third graders have been busy with comprehension and grammar skills on the web at Harcourt School.
Mrs. Brown's fourth graders recently used a Hot list on Native Americans to gather research. They viewed videos at United Streaming about Native Americans.
Mr. Collins' fifth graders analyzed differences between the inner and outer planets of the solar system using a venn diagram in Inspiration.

Student Spotlight
Student Spotlight is an excellent place to post their writing for a larger audience. Younger students can post drawings from Kid Pix, as well as graphic organizers from Inspiration and Kidspiration. Once a piece is approved for posting it is added to the database. The writings or drawings are saved in the database and plans are for this spotlights to be saved and follow the student during their education in Forsyth County. Below are teacher and student directions for creating Student Spotlight.

In order to stay on top of our busy schedules, be sure you have all the calendars displayed in Outlook. If you don't see Midway's calendar, click here for a short tutorial on how to view and copy the Midway calendars to the Outlook bar.

Web Byte
The district office is currently testing new web filters. If you are at a great educational site and are blocked, please copy me the URL(address) in an e-mail so that we can have the district office unblock the site.

Dositey is a web site that I have shared before. It has some new interactive learning games that you may want to visit. It also has printable worksheets in math that relate to operations and problem solving.
